You can't read a book and suddenly connect with your teenager.

There's no shortage of parenting advice. Books, podcasts, therapy worksheets — most parents who struggle to connect with their teens have read plenty of it. The problem isn't knowledge. It's practice. Knowing what validation means and actually doing it in the heat of the moment are two completely different things.

Think about how any real skill gets built. You don't become a better driver by reading about it. You don't get better at difficult conversations by understanding them intellectually. Skills require repetition. They require doing the thing wrong, getting feedback, and doing it again. That's what therapists train for. That's what relatable gives parents.

Relatable is built on the same approaches used in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) — particularly the skill of validation, which research consistently shows is the foundation of emotional connection. When your teen feels genuinely heard, their nervous system calms down. The wall comes down. Suddenly a real conversation becomes possible.

The app isn't here to replace a therapist, and it isn't here to tell you that you're a bad parent. It's here to give you a low-stakes practice court — so that when your teenager comes home upset, you're not fumbling through it for the first time.

Frequently asked questions.

Is this a substitue for family therapy?

No — it's a practice tool. But it teaches approaches that therapists actually use. Specifically, the DBT skill of validation, which is foundational to connecting with emotionally dysregulated teens. If you or your teenager are in crisis, please reach out to a mental health professional.

What ages does this work for?

Relatable is designed for parents of teenagers ages 13–19. The AI is tuned to respond authentically for this age range. If you're dealing with a 10-year-old or a 25-year-old, some of the dynamics will still apply, but the sweet spot is the teen years.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your conversations are not stored, shared, or used to train AI models. What happens in your practice sessions stays there. We take this seriously — these are personal family dynamics and they deserve discretion.

When will the app launch?

Join the waitlist to get early access when we open the beta. We're building thoughtfully, not quickly. Waitlist members will be first in and will shape what the app becomes.
